REFRA-SOS
What it does
REFRA-SOS is a project investigating the use of social media data as an alternate data source for modeling real-time natural disasters, and predicting their future evolution, beyond traditional satellite imagery solutions. The project website can be found here.
My role
I've been the primary lead for this project. REFRA-SOS was a largely dormant initiative since 2023 until I took it over in 2025. Since then, I've defined the broad short- and long- term vision for the project, lead recruitment and development, and prepared the project for its academic launch at the IAF GLOC 2026 conference.
GIS-PHNRA
What it does
GIS-PHNRA is a survey project levaraging both on-the-ground census-taking and remote satellite imagery to create a comprehensive analysis of pre- and post-natal care in East Africa. The project intends to both create an accessible database for improving awareness of resources available in the region, as well as lead to policy recommendations for local governments and decision-makers in the region. The project expects to publish its first report in late 2026.
My role
I've served as a project manager and international coordinator for this project since the beginning of 2026. I've coordinated with the local Nairobi-based team to help define and adhere to project goals and timelines, and helped recruit interantional volunteers to assist with data collection and analysis.
The Big Awards
What it is
The Big Awards is a recurring web series commissioned by the content creator Atrioc, host of politics and economics show Lemonade Stand. It's a lighthearted comedy series in which various high-profile associates of Atrioc, alongside his community of fans, present faux "awards" commemorating highlights from the prior year of content. Collectively, the series has garnered over a million views across various platforms, ranging from YouTube videos to short-form video posts.
My role
I've served in a series of roles since this project's inception, ultimately serving as the overall director for the most recent iteration of the show. This involved overseeing a 50-person team of volunteers, coordinating the production process, defining the creative vision for the show, and liasing with Atrioc and associated stakeholders to ensure the overall success of the project.
